The Effects of An Authentication

In accordance with international practice and consular practice in China, the purpose of consular authentication is to ensure that notarial documents and other public documents issued in one country have their due legal effect,and can be acknowledged by relevant authorities in another country, which shall not be affected by doubts on the authenticity of the seal or signature on the documents.

Notarial documents and other public documents issued in the Philippines and to be used in China,including Hong Kong and Macao,may be authenticated as needed by the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines and the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines.

 

Authentication Procedures

1) Power of Attorney, Affidavit and other documents notarized by the Notary Publics should be authenticated in consecutive order by the Regional Trial Court, the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines and the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines.

2) Birth Certificate, Death Certificate, Marriage Contract and other documents should be authenticated in consecutive order by the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines and the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines.

 

Documents Required

1) One fully completed Notarization and Authentication Application Form.

2) The original and a photocopy of the document to be authenticated.

3) The original of the applicant's passport and a photocopy of the photo/information page of the passport or other valid ID.

If the authentication document is applied by an agent, the original and a photocopy of the agent's valid ID is also required.

4) If the document is a business license, a photocopy of the passport of the company's legal representative and the company document that can prove the person's legal representative status should be submitted.

 

How to Apply

1) You may either submit the application or entrust someone else to submit the application. Mail application is not accepted.

2) No appointment is needed.

Other Important Information

1) According to regulations of China, a single status affidavit used for marriage registration in China is valid for only 6 months from the date of issuance.

2) An application should be refused if the consular official believes that the document is unlawful, does not meet the requirements of application process/format, or is altered and unbound.
