Mount Emei and Leshan Giant Buddha

Mount Emei is situated on the southwestern edge of the Sichuan Basin ranging more than 200km. The landscape there is beautiful and many claim it is "the most beautiful place in the world". There is a difference in elevation of 2,600 meters, allowing many different types of animals and vegetation to flourish.

Mount Emei is one of the well-known mountains fo buddhism in China. There were over 170 temples on the mountain during the most prosperous period,and 29 stillremain, including the most famous Baoguo Temple and Wannian Temple.

Leshan Giant Buddha refer to the huge statue of Buddha sitting on Lingyunshan Mountain east of Mount Emei. The carcing began in 713 AD,and the work lasted for 90 years.Leshan Giant Buddha is 71 metters high, and its instep alone can seat more than a hundred persons. It is the largest existent statue in the world to be carved from a cliff.
