President Arroyo attended the Spring Festival Reception held by the Chinese Embassy

On the evening of February 11, 2010, the grand Spring Festival Reception was held at the Manila Hotel by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China. With beautiful lanterns and colorful decorations, the Fiesta Hall of the Hotel was radiant with joy and happiness. Those who were present included Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Foreign Secretary Albert Romulo, Manila city Mayor Alfredo Lim together with Pilipino-Chinese community leaders as Lucio Tan, representatives of local Chinese companies, voluntary teachers and overseas Chinese students as well as diplomats of the Chinese Embassy. More than 800 people came to the Reception.

President Arroyo requested Ambassador Liu Jianchao to convey her New Year's greetings to the Chinese leaders and Chinese people. She spoke highly of the great economic and social development China has achieved during the past year and looked forward to the furtherance of bilateral ties in the year to come.

 

Ambassador Liu expressed appreciation for the President's presence at the Reception and extended festive greetings to Her Excellency as well as other guests. He welcomed the fruitful China-Philippine cooperation in various areas in the past year. He said this year the two countries will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations, and he hoped that both sides would take this good opportunity to work together to push forward the strategic cooperative relations between China and the Philippines.

 

The guests highly praised the remarkable achievements of China's economic and social development and wished the China-Philippine relations a brighter future.
