On 21 July, 2005, Amb. Wu Hongbo was invited as a quest speaker at the luncheon of Manila Rotary Club.

Amb. Wu reviewed in his speech the centuries-old friendship between China and the Philippines and highlighted the significant achievements in the past 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of the Philippines. He pointed out that the two countries had enjoyed expanding cooperation in political, economic, cultural and military fields in a golden age of partnership. He was convinced that the friendly ties and cooperation of the two countries would develop continuously and vigorously in the years ahead. Amb. Wu also answered questions such as the Taiwan issue, North Rail project and China's defense expenditure.

Amb. Wu's speech and answers were warmly received and applauded by Rotarians.
