The Chinese Embassy Donated 2000 Huawei tablets to help Philippine students

On 2 February 2021, Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian turned over 2000 Huawei tablets to Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones of the Department of Education(DepEd) of the Philippines in Malacañang Palace, with the purpose for supporting the implementation of the blended distance learning modality of the Philippines amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs and Chief of Presidential Protocol Robert Eric Borje and DepEd Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan were present.

Ambassador Huang said while the pandemic has brought severe challenge to traditional teaching methods, the donation is intended to help the Philippine students to overcome difficulties and to get better access to distance learning resources amid the pandemic. The Chinese Embassy will continue to support the education endeavor of the Philippines to the best of its ability, and further implement the Chinese Government Scholarship and Chinese Ambassador Scholarship projects.

Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones expressed appreciation for the donation, saying that the donation showcases the long-term valued friendship between China and the Philippines and is a great support for the implementation of the blended distance learning modality of the Philippines amid the pandemic. Those tablets will be distributed among our Last Mile Schools, i.e. schools located in geographically isolated, disadvantaged and conflict-affected areas. The Philippines is also willing to learn from China's successful experience in promoting online education.
