Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani of Afghanistan

On December 25, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani of Afghanistan, who was attending the 1st China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Dialogue.

Wang Yi welcomed Salahuddin Rabbani to attend the 1st China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Dialogue in China, and expressed that China and Afghanistan are traditional friendly neighboring countries, and always trust, understand and support each other. China will, in accordance with the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, adhere to the idea featuring amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness and the diplomatic policy of building friendship and partnership with neighboring countries, to further deepen cooperation between the two countries. China regards Afghanistan as an important cooperation partner of building the "Belt and Road", and is willing to, together with the Afghan side, enhance the docking of development strategies, expand cooperation space, and drive the development of Afghanistan through self-development. China will continuously adhere to the principle of the "Afghan-led and Afghan-owned", and hopes to see Afghanistan realizing its broad and inclusive political reconciliation at an early date.

Wang Yi expressed that as important neighboring countries of each side, China, Afghanistan and Pakistan face the common tasks in such areas as safeguarding national security and stability, promoting economic and social development and improving people's living standard. China proposed to hold the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Dialogue, aiming at helping Afghanistan and Pakistan establish a sound platform for communication and dialogue, and boosting practical cooperation among three countries. It is hoped that both Afghanistan and Pakistan could meet each other half way, share mutual understanding and consideration, build consensus, establish mutual trust and improve relations. China is ready to play a constructive role in this regard.

Salahuddin Rabbani expressed that Afghanistan and China are good neighbors and good friends. Afghanistan regards China as a permanent and reliable partner. Extending gratitude to China for providing precious support and assistance for Afghanistan in various fields, the country stands ready to actively participate in the "Belt and Road" initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, strengthen cooperation in connectivity, infrastructure, energy and other areas, to further give play to Afghanistan's location advantage. China is also a mutual friend of Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Afghan side appreciates the efforts made by China to advance the improvement of relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan and build the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Dialogue mechanism, and expects to cement cooperation with China and enhance political mutual trust through this mechanism, so as to jointly deal with development and security challenges.
