Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Stéphane Dion of Canada
2016/09/24

On the afternoon of September 23, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Montreal with Foreign Minister Stéphane Dion of Canada.

Wang Yi said that Premier Li Keqiang's visit to Canada achieved a complete success. The exchange of visits by Chinese Premier and Canadian Prime Minister within a month sends a strong and positive message to the outside community, and the joint statement issued by both sides listed 29 important outcomes. It is hoped that China-Canada relations could once again stand at the forefront of China’s relations with western countries. Both sides should accelerate the pace to implement the outcomes of this visit, maintain and strengthen the momentum of mutually beneficial cooperation, and especially strive to expand and transfer the important consensus reached by leaders of both countries into the common aspiration and concerted action of all circles of China and Canada. The two countries should also constantly accumulate positive force for China-Canada cooperation and properly control and handle negative elements.

Stéphane Dion agreed with Wang Yi’s views on the development of China-Canada relations. He expressed that during Premier Li Keqiang’s visit to Canada, positive messages on deepening bilateral cooperation have been sent to all walks of life of Canada for several times. The plan for the development of Canada-China relations is now clear, and the two sides should focus on the implementation work in the next stage, so as to ensure the stable and consistent development of Canada-China relations. Canada and China once had a long history of friendly exchanges, and will have a brilliant future.

Both sides also exchanged views on strengthening cooperation on African affairs and the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
